New Orleans – Recipe from the ‘Old Waldorf Bar Guide’
(fizz glass)
Dash of Orange Bitters
One jigger Italian Vermuth
Shake; strain; fill from siphon
Today was secret cinema day, the current production is Baz Luhrman’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’, and we decided to meet first at Goat for a pre-event beverage and pizza, it was a beautiful and sunny day, so I thought something a little lighter, long cool and refreshing would be perfect. I’ve adapted this recipe a little, moving it from a fizz to a Collins, and emphasising the orange with garnish / additional flavour. This was my drink of choice last summer, Antica Formula and Soda so adding a touch of orange to this was a winner for me.
I don’t drink soft drinks at all, unless you count soda water in cocktails, so this is about as close as I get to one, I find it long and refreshing, and a great vehicle to try different vermouths in.
This is a great drink, although not what I’d call a cocktail, for me this sits more firmly inside the ‘spirit mixer’ category of drinks.
