Volga – Recipe from David Embury’s ‘The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks’

1 part Lime Juice

1 part Orange Juice

4 parts Vodka

2 dashes Grenadine to each drink

1 dash Orange Bitters to each drink

Shake thoroughly with cracked or crushed ice.

The Volga is an enormous river that passes through Russia, most of Russia’s cities can be found on its banks, it is the home of  Moscow and Beluga Sturgeon source of the best caviar in the world. These enormous fish can grow up to 7.2m long and weigh over 1.5 tons, which makes it one of the largest carnivorous fish in the world. They also enjoy a peculiar status in the UK, once you catch one in British waters it belongs to the reigning monarch, like whales they are ‘Royal’ fish.

There is nothing esteemed, royal, protected or even mildly ok about this drink, it tastes like Sunny D having a bad day and should be avoided at all costs. I’m a little surprised it made it into Embury’s book as it is truly terrible.
