Aunt Emily – Recipe from David Embury’s ‘The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks’

1 part Apricot Liqueur

2 parts Gin

1 part Orange Juice

2 parts Applejack

1 dash Grenadine to each drink

I’m not sure who Aunt Emily was but she has strange tastes if she likes this. This is unfortunately another of those wholly unlikeable drinks, the Apricot and Orange juice somehow combine to make the drink taste like a combination of cough syrup and Sunny D. There just isn’t enough citrus to balance the sweetness from literally everything else, and the fruitiness of the Applejack just accentuates this. The only way this would work is with a some citric acid or phosphate added to the mix so you still get the orange flavour, only with a little bit of acid to balance everything sweet.
