Commando – Recipe from David Embury’s ‘The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks’

1 part Cointreau

2 parts Lime Juice

8 parts Whisky

2 or 3 dashes Absinthe to each drink Shake with cracked ice.

Great name for a drink, and a great set of ingredients, however the drink ends up fairly underwhelming. For what is essentially a orange whiskey sour with Absinthe the drink ends up a little bland, or my taste buds just weren’t feeling it.

Taste is a strange thing, and changes on a daily basis determined by what you’ve had to drink and eat at the same time, or the night before, how much sleep you’ve had, where your tasting something etc. I never really bought into this until I went through a rum binge over several years where I tried everything I could get my hands on until finding my favourite (Plantation Venezuela, no longer produced) and noticed that it tasted different day to day, from the same bottle.

Not sure if I’d bother trying this one.
