Admiral – Recipe from David Embury’s ‘The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks’
Shake with cracked ice.
1 part Cherry Heering
2 parts Lime Juice
8 parts Gin
Cherry Heering is the standard cherry flavoured liqueur on the back of most bars, its what makes a Singapore Sling different from a Gin Sling, and also pops up in a Blood and Sand cocktail. Peter Heering its inventor launched the product from Denmark in 1818, making it damn old.
The drink is good without being great, it could do with a touch of sugar just to balance out the lime juice, but aside from that is a perfectly good gin sour. I would also be a stickler for the proportions, it needs that much gin so if you do make it stick to those ratios.
